Embedding genomics into health care: what are nursing and midwifery leaders and managers’ responsibilities?

Hosted by the RCN Institute of Nursing Excellence in collaboration with Public Health Forum, Mental Health Forum, RCN England, NHS England, and the Genomics Education Programme and Genomics Unit

This session will focus on the role of genomics as highlighted in the 10-year health plan for the NHS in England and the expectation that genomics-informed health care will inform 50% of all health care interactions by 2035.

Case studies will be used to illustrate how leaders and managers can embed genomics into clinical services through education and training approaches. Peer learning, appraisals, CPD and revalidation will be explored.

The session will examine the importance of ensuring nurses and midwives are confident and competent to support patients/clients, demonstrating the pivotal role nurses and midwives can play in provision of genomics informed care.
