Ethics and the use of AI: the impact on the nursing profession

19 May 2026, 08:00 - 08:45

  • Room 1A, ACC Liverpool , Kings Dock , Liverpool Waterfront , Liverpool , L3 4FP
Hosted by the Education Forum in collaboration with Advanced Nurse Practitioner Forum, and the Students Committee

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers benefits such as predictive analytics, personalised learning, and improved patient monitoring, enhancing efficiency and outcomes. Yet concerns remain; algorithms can be biased, lack transparency, and risk eroding critical thinking and empathy which is core to nursing care. In nurse education, while AI enables tailored learning and advanced simulation, it must not replace human judgement or the values underpinning professional practice.

This session will weigh innovation against ethics, focusing on patient safety, data privacy, and the irreplaceable role of nurses, using presentations and interactive discussions to debate responsible AI integration in care and education.

This session is aimed at all grades, in education and practice, including students and support workers.
