Prison nursing unlocked: a history of care and justice

19 May 2026, 08:00 - 08:45

  • Room 3A, ACC Liverpool , Kings Dock , Liverpool Waterfront , Liverpool , L3 4FP
Hosted by the Nursing in Justice and Forensic Health Care Forum in collaboration with the RCN Library and Museum

This is an interactive seminar designed to stimulate thought and discussion about nursing in prisons and criminal justice settings within the UK throughout history.

By asking questions such as ‘How have things changed?’ ‘What has stayed the same?’ ‘What is the patients experience?’ ‘What could we do better?’ we will look to illuminate the stories in this area of nursing that occurs behind closed doors and challenge the biases that people hold.

Artifacts and resources from the current exhibition on display at RCN Scotland, and previously on display in RCN HQ, will showcase the research gathered by members of the Nursing in Justice and Forensics Forum and the History of Nursing Forum.
