Has nursing lost its way in the pursuit of advanced status?

18 May 2026, 13:00 - 13:45

Hosted by Oxford branch in collaboration with Nurses in Management and Leadership Forum, Fundamentals of Nursing Care UK, RCN Institute of Nursing Excellence, and Oxford Brookes University

Nursing's very essence - person-centred fundamental care - is seen by some as being diminished in pursuing advanced practice. This may inadvertently lead to the loss of the fundamental care that patients value most. As we champion the nurse title, we're confronted with a paradox: advanced care practitioners' roles without a nursing identity, while other professions assume nursing leadership positions, eroding our authority in patient care.

This raises urgent questions: Is advanced status being pitted against the fundamentals of nursing? Are our core values being sacrificed to meet political expediency?

Join this panel debate, share your voice on the leadership of our profession and the values that truly matter.
