Royal College of Nursing responds to the Autumn Statement
Royal College of Nursing Chief Nurse, Professor Nicola Ranger, said: “This statement was short-sighted, not long-term. The NHS faces a multi-billion pound deficit - giving away at least £5 billion in tax cuts in place of health spending confirms the NHS is no longer a priority for the government."

Royal College of Nursing comments on Panorama programme ‘Care Workers Under Pressure’
Royal College of Nursing Director for England, Patricia Marquis, said: “The findings of this investigation are deeply disturbing and, tragically, far from unique. There is modern slavery operating within our care system and it needs taking out root and branch."

Royal College of Nursing responds to consultant pay offer
Royal College of Nursing Chief Nurse Professor Nicola Ranger said: “Nursing staff will be appalled by this announcement and where it leaves them. Royal College of Nursing responds to launch of the Green Party manifesto
RCN Acting General Secretary and Chief Executive, Professor Nicola Ranger, said: “Pledges to boost the pay of NHS workers are positive, but the money in these plans doesn’t appear sufficient to deliver the substantial above inflation pay rise nursing staff need. There is also no specific promise to restore nursing pay like there is for junior doctors."

Royal College of Nursing responds to the Health Secretary’s comments on corridor care
Executive Director of RCN England Patricia Marquis said “The Heath Secretary is right to recognise the crisis that leaves patients treated in corridors. Being honest about it is the first important step. Nursing staff are genuinely fearful of what’s ahead this winter."

Royal College of Nursing responds to proposed update to NHS Constitution for England
Professor Nicola Ranger, RCN Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy Chief Executive said: “Patients are already able to request intimate care from a staff member of the same sex, but in an NHS missing tens of thousands of nursing staff it is nigh-on impossible to accommodate with any consistency. It’s also important to recognise that nursing staff treat all patients with the utmost respect and professionalism, no matter their gender."

Out of area placements symptom of mental health system without enough beds or staff, says Royal College of Nursing
RCN UK Professional Lead for Mental Health Ben Thomas said: “Some of the most vulnerable are being shunted around the country at a time when they need stability. This is a symptom of a mental health system which has neither the beds nor the workforce to deliver care closer to home. It’s an unacceptable way to treat people, disrupting treatment plans, slowing recovery and delaying discharge."

Royal College of Nursing responds to an announcement from the Department of Health and Social Care about one-off payments for more healthcare workers
RCN Director for England Patricia Marquis said: “After a year of campaigning, this progress is a huge leap forward. They deliver NHS care and deserve the same treatment."
