NHS Tayside team recognised for their support of care experienced children and young people

The NHS Tayside Care Experienced Young People's Service (CEYPS) was announced as the winner of the RCN Scotland Children’s Nursing and Midwifery award at a glittering ceremony tonight (23 May 2024).

Children-CEYPS-Team

This award aims to recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to the care of children or young people or the care of mothers-to-be and new parents.

The CEYPS team, based in Dundee, aims to provide care, support, and advice to care experienced children and young people up to the age of 26. It involves a team of nurses and midwives working closely with social workers, school nurses, doctors, and other services to promote the health and wellbeing of these young individuals. The team provides support for young people living in different settings, improving transition for those leaving care, and offering health input for care planning and accommodation matching.

The team has improved the experiences and health outcomes of young people by providing them with support, access to services, and a sense of safety and trust. Feedback from service users has been positive, encouraging continuous improvement.

Commenting on the team’s Award win, Colin Poolman, RCN Scotland Executive Director said:

“Nursing and midwifery play a key role in ensuring children receive the best start in life. The Tayside CEYPS team has truly shown their outstanding contribution in responding to the individual needs of care experienced children and young people in Tayside. Their holistic approach is truly deserving of the recognition they have received tonight”.

Congratulations also go to runner up, the West of Scotland Mother and Baby Unit at Leverndale Hospital in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and highly commended Elaine Wilson, Deputy Charge Nurse in the Midlothian Immunisation Team.
