I originally thought I wanted to be a teacher. As a teaching assistant I was assigned to a one-to-one role with a little girl with complex needs who didn’t yet have a diagnosis... This little girl changed my life and my career.

The RCN isn’t just for nurses
I’m on the Nursing Support Workers Committee of the RCN and I get a lot out of being an RCN member. I don’t think many HCAs and APs, TNAs and NAs realise that the RCN isn’t just for nurses. Although the College is about the whole nursing team, not enough people know that.

In these unprecedented and challenging times when nurses are facing difficult challenges every day, when the talk seems to be about returning to a ‘new normal’ it is especially important that we all receive the right support in our work and practice, and a network of colleagues facing similar challenges can really help.
