Update on RCN Congress 2022: Day Four - the final day
Everyone is tired but buzzing after the previous three great days of debate and meeting each other and making new friends. Last night was the end-of-Congress party with fantastic food choices from several food outlets and the evening continued with dancing with music from a brilliant band.

We are facing the most difficult time for over 30 years
Inflation (CIPH rate) is expected to soon be 9%, interest rates have increased to 1.75%, utility bills increased by 54% last April and are expected to rise again in October. We cannot meet these demands with a pay award of between 2.5 and 4.5 %

Farewell and thank you South West - you are the best
Dear All At the RCN EGM on the 29 November a motion of no confidence was passed. Under RCN governance guidance this is not a binding decision. I have nonetheless decided to stand down from the position of Council member for the South West region and Chair of Dorset branch.

The whole auditorium was buzzing
As your RCN Council member I am immensely proud to attend #RCN22 together with our other wonderful South West delegates.

Enough is enough. A vote for strike is the only way we can be heard
Things feel really tough for us all at the moment, but we must not be silent; our voice needs to be heard loudly and clearly by the government. Enough is enough.

Historic vote
These are truly momentous times as RCN members have taken the decision to take strike action for the first time in our 106-year history. Here in the South West region there was an overwhelming vote for action by our members who clearly feel #EnoughIsEnough.

Reflections on a year like no other
As we approach the end of the year I thought I would share my reflections on 2023. What a year it has been. A year like no other as we worked together on picket lines during our strike action. Standing together in the hope that we would be recognised for the outstanding care we give to our patients/clients with a fair pay award.

My RCN journey - the first twenty years
I was so proud in 2003 when I completed my NVQ 3. Not long after that day I was presented was an application form to join the Royal College of Nursing. I didn't think I could become a member of the RCN because I thought that you had to be a registered nurse (RN). Sadly, there are a lot of health care support workers and RNs who believe that this is true even today.

My door is always open
When I reflect on the last year and think about all of the IHSC employers and members and I have met I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be in this role as your link to the RCN, your voice to improve your membership experience and to showcase the often-unseen innovations and exceptional care delivered within the independent health and social care sector.
