As student nurse, it can be difficult to know your first move when qualified. There are certain pathways favoured by both students and current staff that tend to involve starting your first year within an acute hospital trust. I have long felt that this pathway is not for me - not because I dislike hospital work but because that is not where my heart is.
The new hashtag for the staffing for safe and effective care campaign is #SafetyInNumbers. We’re hoping it’s a hashtag that will catch people’s attention for this important campaign.
Last month I attended the first meeting of the newly elected RCN Council. We covered a lot of ground at this meeting, with some important updates on issues of great importance to RCN members and the patients we care for.
As the days and nights get colder and we move towards the festive season, it is easy to feel the ramping up of activity to manage the patient throughput and dependency we so well know at this time of the year.

For many people, it feels like the hot weather has been with us forever. The snow we saw in March is a long, distant memory.
