This award aims to recognise the impact and importance of nursing in social care and those who have made an outstanding contribution to care and quality of life for residents in a care home.
Described by her nominator as an inspirational nursing leader whose work combines compassion, innovation, and clinical excellence to improve outcomes for older people in care homes, Lori changes practice, reduces risk and improved care. She uses data and evidence to translate incidents and outcomes into immediate, practical learning, working directly with the nursing team while supporting professional development and inclusion. Lori challenges outdated practice, supports international nurses, and ensures voices from social care are heard at senior and regulatory levels. Her data-driven initiatives have delivered measurable improvements, strengthened workforce capability, and embedded a culture of person-centred care, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The judges were impressed with her commitment to high-quality person-centred care. Head judge, Eileen McKenna, said: “Throughout the process, it was clear that Lori’s commitment to high quality care for residents across the BCG Cares group is resulting in better care and outcomes, receiving positive feedback from residents and families and improved care inspectorate reports.”
Congratulating Lori on her win, Colin Poolman, RCN Scotland Executive Director, said: "Often overlooked, nursing in care homes is a vital area of practice looking after some of the most vulnerable in our society. Lori is a clear advocate for care home nursing and an amazing showcase of the expert skills and knowledge nurses have. She’s a truly deserving winner.”
Congratulations also go to our runner up Edinburgh’s Royston Care Home Nursing Team, and our highly commended finalist, Eileen Welch, from Burnlea House Care Home, Largs.
