Celebrating nursing excellence in the capital: introducing two new RCN Fellows
On 26 March 2026, we gathered for a special awards ceremony to honour the remarkable achievements of RCN members. The RCN Awards celebrate the extraordinary dedication, and skill that nursing colleagues bring to the profession and to the RCN.

This year, two London members Dr Nicola Dunlop and Professor Mary Wells were elected RCN Fellows. Fellows are trailblazing leaders who have made an exceptional contribution to nursing and improving health care An RCN Fellowship is one of the highest accolades we can give to members.
Dr Nicola Dunlop is an Adnexal Nurse Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. As her nominators put it:
“Dr. Nicola Dunlop’s career is defined by her pioneering innovation, her dedication to rigorous educational replication, her leadership in translating research to practice, and her effective national advocacy. She is, without question, an outstanding role model”
Professor Mary Wells is Director of Nursing for Research and Academic Leadership at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Practice (Cancer Nursing) at Imperial College. Her nominators described Mary as:
“A visionary leader who unites excellence in practice, education, research and leadership; who consistently raises the profile of nursing nationally and internationally; and who champions the development of others”
Regional Director for London Lisa Elliott: "I am hugely proud that Dr Nicola Dunlop and Professor Mary Wells have been recognised in this way. Their groundbreaking work has made an immense contribution to improving patient care and they have shown exceptional commitment to the profession. I would like to thank them for impact they have made in the capital, nationally and beyond. Their achievements showcase the best of nursing in the capital."
