From the admin assistant making the appointment, to the HCA taking the blood test, to the doctor giving the blood test results, each and every one of us has an important role to play. We are each a cog in the wheel, running the machine smoothly.
Start the morning by greeting everyone with a GREAT smile. We all know that some days can be panic days, but if you start your morning with a big smile, all the others will follow suit.
Know your environment, your responsibilities, and what is expected of you within your working limitations.
Always expect the unexpected – don't just rely on word of mouth and paperwork. Patients are all unique.
Acknowledge and recognise the different clinical team members but remember you are of equal value.
Be proud, be diligent and be professional: prove that HCAs are special people and not everyone can do this job.
Everything you say needs to meet three criteria: honest, kind, and necessary. If it meets these three then you can say it (test me!).
Be confident and professional at all times: these two things gives patients confidence in their care.
Remember – everything you do will have your signature and character stamped on it. Be a role model.
