Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist Competency Framework
The number of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has risen significantly over the years and the need for increased paediatric IBD clinical nurse specialists has risen too. As a result of the increase in posts many nurses are new to the field, lone workers or establishing new services within existing gastroenterology departments. The purpose of these competencies is to formalise the standards for paediatric nurses working in different roles related to IBD and provide a solid foundation that encompasses some of the challenges and complexities associated with working in paediatrics. The competencies have been designed to be downloaded and completed on screen or on paper.

Baroness Audrey Emerton: a life of leadership and service
RCN Fellow Audrey Emerton, Baroness Emerton of Tunbridge Wells died on 27 February 2026. She was involved in the Royal College of Nursing for over 60 years and her wonderful career impacted nurses and nursing in multiple ways. This short tribute marks her contribution as a nurse leader, but also as a kind and supportive person.
