RCN Wales welcomes continued interest in nursing ahead of the new academic year
By the June 2026 deadline, 4,340 people had applied to study nursing in Wales, compared to 4,370 at the same point last year: a 0.7% decrease.

Executive Director of RCN England, Patricia Marquis, said investment must be there to make sure students graduate and that there are jobs for them when they do.

RCN Associate Director of Employment Relations Brian Morton, said: "The setting up of this new body and the current review by Baroness Casey must be part of urgent and sustained action to support and grow the workforce, which has tens of thousands of vacant posts and has seen a decline in the number of registered nurses, who are so crucial to delivering safe and effective care to people with complex needs.”
