The Gloves are Off

Scottish elections 2026

Nursing demanded action, not promises - now is time to deliver

The Gloves are Off was our campaign for the Scottish parliamentary elections 2026. Five years on from the previous Scottish parliament elections in 2021, nursing staff had seen no meaningful improvement to health and care services, whether in the NHS or independent sector.

The SNP won the election on a manifesto containing several pledges for nursing - the gloves are off, it's now time for the new Scottish government to deliver.

Scotland cannot build the sustainable nursing workforce it urgently needs by asking staff to continue to work under relentless pressure while feeling demoralised and undervalued.

We will continue to work hard post-election to ensure MSPs from all parties recognise that it is time to value nursing properly.

Find out what we called for and why during the election campaign and will continue to lobby for post election - because Scotland’s health depends on it.

Our manifesto

Longstanding pressures have compounded, workforce shortages and long waiting times continue, and our members are working harder than ever while feeling less valued.

The impact this all has on nursing staff is huge. They are unable to provide the best possible care to Scotland’s population.

Find out what we are calling on the new Scottish government to do to value nursing properly.
