Improving Mandatory Training: How reps can play their part
To ensure a safe and healthy workplace, mandatory training is vital. Staff need the knowledge and skills both to deliver safe and effective care and protect themselves. But RCN reps tell us local training has some challenges and barriers, including in its design, its delivery and in engaging staff. RCN reps are uniquely placed to support employers in improving the culture around mandatory training. By working through this resource and undertaking its activities, our aim is that you will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a difference to mandatory training for staff where you work.

This summer, England witnessed high temperatures and long stretches of hot weather. For those living with long-term conditions or multiple medical problems, this meant additional support was required for illness exacerbated by heat. We set out to assess whether these support needs were associated with additional pressures put on the NHS in England this summer.

The results of that survey informed the RCN’s new position on consent (006 921) launched in March 2018.
