This publication provides a competency and role development framework for rheumatology practitioners in clinical practice (most commonly called rheumatology nurse specialists). The role of the rheumatology nurse specialist is highly complex and may include roles in paediatric nursing, research, advanced level skills in clinical assessment, prescribing and providing intra-articular injections amongst others. This publication is sponsored by Arthritis Action, Biogen, Novartis and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, and is endorsed by the British Society for Rheumatology.
This is the third edition of the RCN’s guidance and has been updated to ensure the publication contains the latest evidence-based guidance to support practitioners in the safe and confident administration of subcutaneous methotrexate in a variety of primary and secondary care settings, including community and managed care environments. The guidance covers aspects of both adult and children/young people’s care.
