Student nurses, this back to school blog is for you!

Back to school

Have you ever struggled with searching for literature and evidence for your studies? Want to spend less time stressing on where to even start, and more time focusing on studying or your placement, or just relaxing and looking after your wellbeing in your free time?

Whether from the comfort of your living room, or with us in person, we’re here to support you in a hybrid way to suit your busy university schedule.

Our Cardiff Library in Ty Maeth (right next to the University Hospital of Wales) is open by Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00pm, with dedicated appointments with your Librarians available from 10:00am. I promise we don’t bite (or ‘shush’)! Why not book a drop-in slot to have a chat with us in person? We have free parking available right on site, too!

In need of books? Check out our digital catalogue which gives you access to 1000s of the most up-to-date nursing dictionaries online, e-journals, and magazines and periodicals like Nursing Time, and of course the text books you need. We can post books to you for free, and returns are free too!

We’re also out and about at your university in the coming weeks, so come and have a chat with us about your study and information needs at the following:

Swansea University, 22nd September (virtual)
Bangor University, 22nd September (in person)
University of South Wales, 26th and 27th September (in person)
Glyndwr University, Wrexham 28th September (virtual)

We’ll also be chatting to you about the upcoming ballot on #FairPayForNursing at these events, what it means for you as a student member, and whether you’re eligible to vote on strike action (which you will be if you work as a bank nurse whilst studying). Join us by 5th October, and make sure your postal address and job details are up to date, as you’ll be balloted by post!

Unable to visit us in person? No problem! We have online drop-ins every Wednesday 2:00-4:00pm.
Join one of our ‘Know How’ workshops or book in for a one-to-one training session to help with your dissertation, revalidation, or CPD.

We have all the subject guides you need to point you in the right direction of resources on your chosen topic of interest and we’re also your referencing best friends (as we know how stressful that can be!) to help you dig into, tweak, and refine your work. Let’s get you past the post to that all important pass mark, so you can focus on your core job of nursing.

Even better, your access to our library services and support for your ongoing studies, CPD, career, and revalidation continues beyond your time as a student, when you become as a full member
Our webchat is also available 9:00am-7:00pm on weekdays and 9:00am-5:00pm on Saturdays. Just click on the green ‘Chat now!’ button on our webpage

All this for 84p a month? A bargain!

Don’t miss out on how we can help, and get ahead with #YourRCNLibraries! #StaffStaffingSavesLives #FairPayForNursing
