5 Jun 2022

We’ll welcome thousands of members to our flagship nursing conference over the next four days.

Congress 2022 opening ceremony

RCN Congress has opened today (5 June) in Glasgow, welcoming members in person for the first time in three years.

Our flagship nursing conference runs until Thursday 9 June at the Scottish Event Campus and offers members a unique and enriching experience to gather together and discuss the most important health care issues of the moment.

Delegates will learn, debate, and network with all speeches, debates and events livestreamed for those attending virtually and made available online afterwards on demand.

This evening, the opening ceremony celebrated the winners of the RCN Awards from 2020, 2021 and 2022. This year saw five RCN Fellowships, two Honorary Fellowships, seven Award of Merits and three Representative of the Year awards being given to those who’ve made an outstanding contribution to the nursing profession and the RCN.

Pat Cullen, RCN General Secretary & Chief Executive, said: “Congratulations to each and every one of you. Thank you for everything you've done for the RCN and its members."

Throughout the week members will vote on several important and diverse issues. Agenda items include ethical overseas recruitment, safe injecting sites and assisted dying.

Also up for debate are a number of topics concerning members’ health and wellbeing, such as the impact of overworking, compassion fatigue and long COVID.

There’s also an extensive learning and wellbeing programme, with dynamic sessions on themes such as leadership and mental health, and events for students and nursing support workers too.

The RCN Magazines website will be updated regularly with the latest news and happenings from RCN Congress, with on demand content available on the Congress website. You can also follow events on social media using #RCN22 .
