Care home staff deserve full sick pay, says RCN Scotland

Commenting on today’s (19 May 2020) care home statement from Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Jeane Freeman MSP, RCN Scotland Director, Theresa Fyffe said:

“Scotland’s care homes are at the centre of this pandemic and we have been calling for a clear strategy to support and protect residents and staff.

“We will be working with our members to monitor the impact of the steps outlined by the Cabinet Secretary to increase clinical oversight and local support to maintain staffing levels and to make testing available to all staff in Scotland’s care homes.

“As the Cabinet Secretary outlined, there are many hard working nursing staff who are being put in an unacceptable position of making the choice between protecting residents, their families and themselves from COVID-19 and being able to pay their bills. We are clear that all nursing staff, no matter where they work, should receive full pay if they become sick, need to self-isolate or shield throughout the pandemic.”
