We’re getting ready to celebrate Black History Month in October and we’re excited to announce the return of our Black History Month Awards. We need you to help us recognise and reward exceptional individuals, teams, and organisations via the BHM Awards.
The theme of this year’s celebrations is 'Anti-racism: Challenging social injustice in a time of adversity' and we want to recognise and celebrate the work of those individuals, teams, universities, or organisations who have had a positive impact on equality, diversity, and inclusion within the Northern or Yorkshire and Humber regions.
So please do tell us about all those doing an amazing job across either or both regions. If you’re nominating a colleague, have a think about how their achievement fits into one of the award categories such as taking action: to remove barriers to equality of opportunity; celebrate diversity; improve the working experiences of others; encourage an inclusive culture; or create an environment where individuals feel a sense of belonging, can be their authentic selves, and feel that they have a voice.
This may involve anti-discriminatory action, positive action and/or allyship and could include, for example, work designing and delivering training or an event, improving the way work is done in their team, or producing something to support colleagues or service users.
We’ve provided more guidance on the nomination form about how your nominee might fit in to one or more of our categories.
Black History Month Regional Awards and Conference - 21 October
We will announce our winning nominees and present awards at our annual Black History Month event. This year it’s taking place on Friday 21 October in Newcastle at the Catalyst, 3 Science Square, Newcastle Helix. So if you do nominate someone, or even if you don’t, then it would be fantastic if you could also join us on the big day.
