RCN to consult members in Scotland on new pay offer

17 Feb 2023

The RCN is to consult its members on the new NHS pay offer in Scotland. The consultation will open on Tuesday 28 February and close at 9am on Monday 20 March.

Ballot on new pay offer RCN Scotland Board, made up of your elected representatives, is recommending to members that they vote to accept the offer.

If you are employed on an NHS Scotland Agenda for Change contract you will be asked to vote to accept or reject the Scottish government's new pay offer in an online consultation.

The new offer includes a pay increase of different percentages depending on the Agenda for Change band you are on, a one-off lump sum and a review of Agenda for Change.

Julie Lamberth, Chair, RCN Scotland Board said:

“I am in no doubt that it was the strength of the RCN’s mandate for strike action that led to this new offer. We have showed the Scottish government that they must listen and act to protect our profession.

“We have consistently said that our campaign has not just been about pay. You are equally concerned about safe staffing. While pay is an important element in retaining experienced nursing staff and attracting the workforce of the future, pay alone will not address the current workforce crisis.

“Action is also needed on career progression, learning and development and flexible working. Many of these issues are linked to the Agenda for Change framework and how it supports nursing.

“The RCN Scotland Board has reviewed this new NHS pay offer in detail and we believe it will make a positive difference for members which is why we recommend you vote to accept the offer.”

Colin Poolman, RCN Director, said:

“It will be up to you, our members, to decide whether, overall, the new offer meets your expectations. If you vote to accept this new offer, the provision for the review of the Agenda for Change pay structure provides a clear path for reform. If you vote to reject this offer our mandate for strike action still stands and we will look to announce strike dates.

“The full details of the offer are available on our website and I urge you to review and discuss the offer and use your vote when the consultation opens on Tuesday 28 February.”
