Equity, diversity and inclusion member networks
We’re developing four UK-wide equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) networks for RCN members across all UK countries and regions to strengthen support, visibility and collaboration across our diverse membership.
The networks will create new spaces for members whose voices may not always be heard, or who may have experienced marginalisation, discrimination or exclusion on the basis of their identity.
Launching later this year they aim to:
- Create a clear way for members with lived experience to share their views and shape the work of the RCN — from challenging discrimination at work, to influencing policy and everything in between.
- Provide a safe, supportive environment where members can connect, share experiences and shape work around EDI issues that matter to them.
Each network will be supported by RCN staff and will link into RCN Council via the Group EDI Committee.
The work and projects each network focuses on will be shaped by its members, so it reflects lived experiences and priorities. There may also be times when networks come together to work on shared issues.
You can join as many of the below networks as relevant to your identity and lived experiences:
- RCN UK Disability and Neurodivergence Voice Network
- RCN UK Global Majority Voice Network
- RCN UK LGBTQIA+ Voice Network
- RCN UK Women’s Voice Network
Each network is designed as a dedicated space for members who share relevant lived experiences or identities. This ensures that people facing similar challenges can come together in a safe, supportive environment.
We greatly value the support of allies at the RCN. However, network membership is limited to those whose identity and lived experience reflect the focus of each network. This ensures a safe, supportive environment where people facing similar challenges can come together and support one another.
Although the new EDI networks are designed for members with specific lived experiences, we expect the benefits to extend across the entire College. By creating spaces where underrepresented voices can be heard and understood, the RCN is strengthening its ability to advocate for all members. A more inclusive organisation benefits all members—creating safer workplaces and a more respectful and supportive environment across the profession.
If you’d like us to email you so you can be among the first to join one or more of our networks when they open, please register your interest below.`
Supporting our work as an ally
If you're an ally and would like to support EDI work, while you can’t directly join the networks, we’d always welcome your involvement too. Contact your regional or national office to find out what opportunities there are to support equity, diversity and inclusion in your area. Your support and solidarity make a real difference.
