Upcoming Cohorts
We are delighted to announce that we will be running further cohorts in 2026! All information is on the flyer and poster below;
Following the success of the first cohort earlier this year the Royal College of Nursing is offering another opportunity for people in Wales who are refugees or asylum seekers to get practical experience and knowledge of the health industry.
This second cohort, funded by Health Education and Improvement Wales, is open to residents in Wales who have at some point been displaced. There are options to study online or in person and will run between February and June 2026.
The programme aims to give participants an understanding of resilience, teamworking and communication while promoting careers available in the health sector in Wales.
It includes practical sessions, such as basic life support, manual handling, infection control and observational work experience. It will also provide coaching for, and experience of, a simulated health care interview and support in drafting personal statements and CVs.
Lorna Mayles, Head of Students and RCN King's Nursing Cadets, said:
“It's important that the workforce of our NHS reflects the population it serves, and this project aims to introduce displaced people in Wales to the diverse roles across the health care landscape to encourage them to consider a career in health care. The programme is an opportunity to gain an insight into the NHS, learn new skills and get support to apply for a role in the NHS.”
