The Welsh Government are seeking views on proposals to extend the areas covered by smoke-free regulations and remove some exemptions.

They are consulting on draft regulations that will:

  • replace existing regulations which ban smoking in certain premises and in private vehicles carrying persons under 18
  • set the conditions for designating areas for smoking within smoke-free hospital grounds and grounds of schools that provide accommodation for pupils
  • place a time limit on the exemption that permits designating rooms in which smoking is permitted in mental health institutions
  • place a time limit on the exemption that permits designating rooms in which smoking is permitted in hotels, guesthouses, inns and members’ clubs.

The consultation can be found on the Welsh Government website by clicking here.

This consultation has been rated “response desirable”, therefore we would appreciate your views and comments.

In order to allow time for our authorisation process we would need to receive any comments by 3rd August 2018. Please send any comments directly to Policy.PublicAffairs.Wales@rcn.org.uk by return of email or use the Have Your Say page.
