Joining a forum steering committee is a great way to take a step up if you're looking for a new challenge in your nursing career. It's an opportunity to influence both the RCN and the nursing profession more broadly when it comes to the things that matter in your specialism. As well as giving you a valuable opportunity to network with colleagues from around the UK, you will inform and have the chance to deliver:
- conferences and workshops
- projects, publications and consultation responses
- debates and fringe events at RCN Congress.
With the exception of one strategy day held in London towards the start of the calendar year, the remaining committee meetings are held virtually.

Nursing derives its strength from its diversity and an integral part of living our commitment to equality and inclusion means that it is vital that our forums reflect the diversity of our membership and the communities that they serve. Forum applications are welcomed and encouraged from everyone who meets the eligibility criteria and we want to ask nurses from black and minority ethnic backgrounds to put themselves forward.

The appointments process has been designed to be professional, fair and supportive with a focus on the skills and qualities you can bring to the forum and the RCN. The appointments process, from shortlisting through to interviews, is member-led and ensures that RCN forums are run by people who are subject area specialists and reflect the diversity of the nursing workforce.
