It was a privilege to attend RCN Congress 2025 in Liverpool as a voting member of the RCN Education Forum. This annual event always provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with the wider nursing community and to influence the future of our discipline. I always leave congress feeling inspired and passionate about advancing our profession.
I was proud to represent the RCN Education Forums members' in the debates and discussions that underpin RCN policy. A pre-congress survey around 'Matters for Discussion' enabled all forum members to share their views and shape our position on key issues. The feedback was invaluable and helped ensure our contributions truly reflected the voice of our forum members. As a committee, we are keen to build on this success, so I would encourage all members to get involved in next year's survey ahead of RCN Congress 2026.
One of the highlights of Congress for me was serving as a panel member for our Education Forum learning event 'Artificial Intelligence as a Learning Tool: Benefits, Challenges, and Ethics'. This generated a vibrant discussion exploring how AI can enhance learning experiences, streamline assessment, and support reflection. It also raised important questions around the implications for academic integrity and the evolving knowledge and skills now required within the educator workforce. The engagement from delegates demonstrated just how topical and crucial this area is for nursing education.
As a forum, we also took part in the World Café sessions, which created space for conversations around the future of nursing education. It was inspiring to hear so many perspectives from across the UK. This also provided the opportunity to showcase the work that is currently being undertaken by the forum.
I was proud to see Dr Rachael Major (Forum Chair), contributing to the Neurodiversity panel event. This offered a powerful insight into support and inclusion in nursing education. Paul Irving (Vice Chair) also seconded a crucial resolution calling for a review of financial support available to nursing students across the UK, a motion that resonated strongly with delegates.
Overall, Congress 2025 was a fantastic celebration of collaboration, learning and advocacy. The RCN Education Forum's presence was strong, forward-looking, and truly member-driven and I am already looking forward to the forum continuing this work in Liverpool next year.
