On this Nurses' Day, I want to extend my deepest gratitude and admiration for the incredible work you do every day. Your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to patient care are truly inspiring and make a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals.
It feels trite to write this and I’m sure you don’t feel it sometimes, but I really mean this.
I have had the great pleasure of visiting many of you at your workplaces this year and it has given me the opportunity to witness first-hand the exceptional skills and specialist knowledge you bring to your roles. Whether it's through your involvement in multidisciplinary teams, your innovative approaches to community-based care, or your participation in learning events, you consistently demonstrate the highest standards of nursing excellence across every setting in every sector.
When I meet our student members, I am particularly moved by the way you engage in thoughtful discussions about the future of our profession. Members at all levels are keen to share their views on pay and the reflections on strike action. Every member voice is crucial in helping to shape the direction of the College – you are, after all, what makes the Union strong.
As we celebrate Nurses' Day, I reflect on my own nursing career and the opportunities and rewards it has given me. I hope you take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact you have on the lives of your patients and the broader community. Your skills and professionalism are the cornerstone of our healthcare system. This year we must all work together to ensure your voice continues to rattle the doors of Westminster.
Thank you for all that you do. I look forward to continuing our journey together, advocating for our profession, and supporting you in the pursuit of excellence in nursing.
