Responding to the Prime Minister's social care announcement, RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, Professor Nicola Ranger, said:
"The Prime Minister knows the importance and the pitfalls of a cross-party approach. But it is the only way it can be fixed once and for all. All parties must feel a moral responsibility to get behind this after successive governments have failed.
"His approach must not slow down some of the urgent and immediate change needed and there are short-term actions to improve care and reduce pressure on hospitals, such as the funding system so capacity in the care system can be accessed and patients discharged faster."
“A new model with registered nurse-led care at its core will be transformative in delivering high quality, person-centred treatment and support, while reducing the pressure on the NHS."
