Corridor care continues to engulf our hospitals, says RCN in response to Lib Dem proposals

Press Release 13/01/2026

Responding to the Liberal Democrat plan to end corridor care, RCN Chief Nursing Officer Lynn Woolsey, said:

“The corridor crisis that continues to engulf our hospitals puts patients and staff at risk and must be urgently addressed. Corridor care is not just an issue in A&E, but also across hospitals and throughout the year.

“More than 18 months ago, we declared an emergency on corridor care and called for urgent action to protect patient care. A commitment to investing in beds and staff is a concrete action nursing staff have been calling for. We now need bold action from the government on this, alongside increased capacity in community and social care.

“We also need to see ministers honour the commitment to publish long overdue national-level data on corridor care, for full transparency on the reality of how widespread it is and the unacceptable damage to patient care.”
