Research is everybody's business. This RCN Trauma and Orthopaedic Nursing (TON) webinar explores how evidence underpins everyday orthopaedic practice that ranges from the fundamentals of what counts as evidence, to how nurses can access, embed, and apply research in real clinical scenarios.
This session will address the infrastructure nurses need to engage with research, common knowledge gaps (including emerging areas like robotic-assisted surgery), and practical examples such as pre-operative fasting protocols and pin site care.
The webinar also touches on sustainability in orthopaedic practice and demystifies the process of writing for publication. This session links directly to the ongoing development of the TON Capability Framework and forms part of the RCN's October 2026 webinar series that focuses on the four pillars of Advanced Practice.
Learning objectives: By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of research and what constitutes good evidence in trauma and orthopaedic nursing practice.
- Identify how to access, appraise, and embed research into everyday clinical guidelines and trauma and orthopaedic nursing care.
