Care in custody: In conversation with nursing teams working in justice (Hybrid)

What is it like working as nurse in justice settings? And what to such nurses do? Join our panel of Nurse of the Year finalists who will share their experiences of working in justice settings, and how they have worked to innovate and respond to the unique challenges the sector presents.
This event will be chaired by Jessica Davidson RN RNMH QN FRCN MBE, South East Healthcare & Forensic Medical Services for People in Police Care, Nurse Lead for SARCS Network, and Programme Lead (Associate) - Advanced Forensic Nursing Practice, Queen Margaret University.
Speakers include:
- Heather Duff and Craig Bell, Learning Disability Queen's Nurses, on the 'Think COULD' animation project to raise awareness about the need for better support for individuals with learning disabilities in the justice system.
Heather Duff has a background of working both in inpatient and community services. Heather has been a CLDN for 32 years working across the lifespan with both children, adults and older adults. Heather took on full time Scottish Government funded secondment in Dec 2014, as Project Manager Health Equalities Framework (HEF), Learning Disability Managed Care Network, Southeast Scotland. The role initially was to support training and implementation of the HEF regionally across four health board areas: NHS Borders, Fife, Forth Valley and Lothian. Heather is currently Community Learning Disability Nurse Team Leader in East Lothian HSCP.
Heather is currently undergoing Clinical Doctorate studies at Stirling University with joint scholarship in place from NHS Lothian and Stirling University.
- Hear also from Sharon Campell, Interim Senior Charge Nurse for Police Custody Healthcare, Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and her team.
- Hear too from the South East Healthcare & Forensic Medical Services for People in Police Care team about their work in NHS Lothian, and how they provide specialised healthcare to marginalised individuals in contact with the justice system, focusing on trauma-informed, person-centred care.

This event accompanies the exhibition Prison Nursing Unlocked: A history of care and justice. The exhibition will be open for visitors Mondays to Thursdays 10 – 4pm.
