Know Your Worth: Rebanding the nursing workforce - for RCN Eastern reps
21 Apr 2026, 11:00 - 12:00
Choose event information:
RCN Eastern reps are invited to this session to find out more about the RCN's Know Your Worth guidance and rebanding of nursing roles.
As an RCN rep working in the NHS, a significant proportion of members in your workplace or service will be directly affected by the government commitment to review the work and salary of every nurse paid at band 5.
We all know many nurses are carrying out duties that far exceed the responsibility of the band for which they are being paid. The government has committed to fund any uplifts in pay resulting from rebanding – but to ensure our members receive the pay uplifts they deserve, each job description needs to be a detailed, accurate and complete account of the work that those members are doing.
This work will involve RCN staff, reps and members working together across the Eastern region.
Regional officers, co-ordinated by our Pay Delivery Officer Steve Haynes, will engage at trust-level and, alongside reps, input into staff side meetings where necessary.
Reps will be trained to identify and flag issues early and to empower your members to actively engage with the job evaluation process.
This will include providing members with the information and support they need to ensure that their revised job descriptions fully and accurately reflect the work they are already doing.
Led by Steve Haynes, this session will give you the information and confidence you need to empower your members. We will cover:
- The main points of the RCN Know Your Worth guidance
- Talking points – what to highlight to members
- Identifying potential “red flags” and working in partnership to achieve solutions
- Facilities time versus panel time – separate resources
This session is open to all RCN Eastern reps, and will be particularly relevant to stewards and learning reps.
Please book your place now to join us on Microsoft Teams.
