RCN England webinar for managers: What does job evaluation mean for me?
08 Sep 2026, 17:30 - 18:15

Do you manage band 5 nursing staff? Join our experts as we dig into the detail of job evaluation and how this is linked to Agenda for Change contracts and the band 5 review in England.
With your help, we secured a commitment from the Westminster government to review every band 5 job description in England by October 2028.
If you manage band 5 nurses, it's crucial that you engage with the review, which is being carried out using a scheme contained within Agenda for Change contracts, known as job evaluation.
Managers will play an important role in ensuring the review is carried out constructively and that job descriptions accurately reflect the work nursing staff are currently required to undertake. Although Band 5 roles are being prioritised, the principles covered in this session apply to roles at every Agenda for Change pay band.
Why join our webinar
This session is not about asking managers to determine the appropriate pay band for staff. Instead, it will help managers support an accurate, fair and evidence-based process before job documentation is submitted for matching or evaluation.
A well-managed review can improve staff confidence, role clarity, workforce planning, recruitment and retention, while reducing the risk of future disputes about job content or banding.
Our experts, RCN England Pay, Terms and Conditions Delivery Officers Justine Somerville and Wesley Auden, will break down the job evaluation scheme and explain what you need to be doing now.
