Back by popular demand: our Let’s talk…Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) webinar series is your chance to learn, share and reflect on particular EDI topics.
“Equity is our clear ambition; diversity is our underused asset; inclusion is our future”, RCN Group EDI Strategy (page 4)
Why talking matters
As part of our EDI strategy we committed to bringing you a series of EDI events through webinars, conferences and seminars to support you to build your EDI knowledge and confidence.
Following the success and some great feedback for the first webinar series, we are bringing the sessions back as online events again this year so that more members can get involved.
One of the biggest barriers to addressing inequities and challenging things when they happen is having the skills and knowledge to intervene effectively and with confidence.
Talk is said to be cheap, yet the ability to communicate effectively across difference is an increasingly valuable skill in a world that is becoming entrenched in division and discord.
With global discourse becoming increasingly polarised and extremism on the rise both at home and abroad, nursing staff across all settings have an important role to play in turning the tide. As one of the most trusted professions, nursing is uniquely positioned to be a driving force for change.
We also know that patient outcomes are improved when health and care services are inclusive and accessible. When patients feel seen and respected as their authentic selves, vital trust is built. This process starts with compassion and having meaningful conversations.
That’s why we’ve created a set of methods and tools to support and empower you to talk across difference and become part of the change in your workplace. Where that is through supporting patients and colleagues to feel safe and valued, or through challenging discrimination when you encounter it, our workshops will give you knowledge to understand these complex issues and practical skills which will empower you to act.
What to expect
Our focus for these webinars is on providing a space for shared discussion and learning, personal and professional reflection around a set topic.
Each session will begin with an introduction to the topic including key information and background knowledge. You’ll then be invited to share your thoughts and experiences and have the opportunity to learn from each other and ask any questions you may have to our facilitators or the wider group.
The webinars are open to all RCN members and each one covers a standalone topic - so you can attend as few or as many as you like.
