This South West CL&D day is an opportunity for you, as an accredited representative, to network and support others in contributing to the work of the region.
Violence and aggression towards health care staff is an increasing and serious issue across the NHS and wider care settings. As RCN trade union representatives, you play a crucial role in supporting colleagues, raising concerns, and influencing safer workplace practices.This study day is designed to provide practical knowledge, strengthen confidence, and equip you with the skills needed to respond effectively and support your members.
This one-day course is for all reps, regardless of length of service. The RCN is committed to making this event an interactive in-person event. On the day we will discuss:
- the scale of the issue
- understanding current trends in violence and aggression in UK health care settings
- types of violence and aggression - including verbal abuse, physical assault, and behavioural challenges seen in different care environments
- legal and policy frameworks - an overview of relevant UK legislation, NHS policies, and your rights at work
- supporting staff after incidents - how to advocate for colleagues, promote reporting, and ensure appropriate follow-up and wellbeing support
- the role of trade union representative - strengthening your ability to influence safer systems, challenge poor practice, and support a positive workplace culture.
