Turn your concerns into action: learn how to influence change through your RCN.
Have you ever spotted a problem at work and wondered how to make your voice heard? Or wanted to improve an issue affecting nursing staff, patients or your workplace, but weren't sure where to start?
Join Gloucestershire Branch members for an inspiring and practical day exploring how local concerns can become regional and national campaigns, and how every member can play a role in shaping the future of nursing.
Whether you're passionate about workplace issues, patient safety, professional standards, education, equity, diversity and inclusion, or supporting colleagues, this event will help you understand how to take the next step from concern to action.
You'll discover:
- how issues raised by members can develop into regional or national RCN work
- practical routes for raising concerns and influencing change
- the many forms activism can take, both large and small
- how to become involved in your union in ways that suit your confidence, interests and availability
- how individual members can make a real difference to nursing, patients and the profession.
By the end of the day, you'll feel more confident in raising concerns, understand the range of opportunities available within the RCN, and recognise that activism isn't one-size-fits-all – there's a place for everyone to get involved.
Shape the future of your Gloucestershire branch
As part of the day, RCN members will also take part in the Gloucestershire branch annual general meeting (AGM).
The AGM is your opportunity to:
- hear about branch activity and achievements
- help determine future priorities for local members
- ratify local representatives
- elect members to the Branch Executive Committee
- have a direct say in the future direction of your branch.
Could you be part of the branch leadership team?
We're keen to hear from members who would like to become more involved in supporting colleagues and representing nursing in Gloucestershire.
The branch executive committee is currently seeking expressions of interest for a range of roles, including:
- Chair
- Secretary
- Treasurer
There are also opportunities to lead on areas that matter most to you, including equity, diversity and inclusion, students, nursing support workers, learning events, communications and member engagement.
No matter your background or experience, if you're passionate about making a difference for RCN members, your branch would love to hear from you.
Members interested in joining the committee should read the branch role descriptors and submit a written expression of interest before the AGM to southwestern.region@rcn.org.uk. To express your interest look out for a branch expression of interest form which is due to appear soon on the RCN 'Current elections and appointments' webpage.
Applications received in advance will take priority over nominations made on the day.
Book early
Places are limited to 65 attendees, so early booking is recommended.
The event is primarily for RCN members, although up to 10% of places may be allocated to non-members. Non-members are welcome to attend the learning programme but will be asked to leave the room during the member-only AGM.
To book, use the online booking button above.
