Do you work at Great Western Hospital? We'll be there from 22 – 23 September to talk to you about job evaluation and the band 5 review in England.
How much do you know about job evaluation, the new national nursing job profiles, and how this affects how much you get paid?
We'll be visiting Great Western Hospital across two days to speak to you about all this and more. We'll have a stand in the atrium where you can come and talk to us about job evaluation, with the opportunity to ask us about what you can be doing now and what to expect.
Look out for us around the wards too where we'll be speaking to you and handing out further information and resources.
Why this matters
Last year, new national nursing profiles were published; these are used as part of the job evaluation process. This, in turn, determines the pay bands for all NHS roles on Agenda for Change contracts.
Your job description is a crucial part of this and needs to be an accurate reflection of your role.
The government has instructed NHS employers in England to review every band 5 job description, but this is just the start. All nursing jobs should be reviewed or have recently undergone a review against these new profiles – no matter which band you’re on.
This is your opportunity to speak to us and highlight your concerns so you feel empowered to engage with the job evaluation process.

Who will I be able to speak to?

South West Pay Delivery Officer Shani Woodbridge
Shani Woodbridge is a registered midwife and the Pay Delivery Officer for the South West region. With more than a decade of experience in the trade union movement, she has served as a workplace representative, staff side secretary, and led a major job evaluation programme, developing extensive expertise in NHS pay, workforce policy, and job evaluation.
Having experienced progression from band 5 to band 6 early in her clinical career, Shani has long been passionate about ensuring that nursing staff are fairly recognised and rewarded for the complexity, responsibility, and expertise they bring to patient care. She has a particular interest in the national developments surrounding Annex 20, the band 5 nursing review, and the updated nursing and midwifery profiles, which together provide an important opportunity to ensure nursing roles are appropriately evaluated and rewarded.
In her current role, Shani works with NHS organisations across the South West to support the delivery of the national nursing job evaluation review, helping to ensure that the process is undertaken consistently, fairly, and in line with national guidance and agreed time frames. She is committed to supporting employers, staff representatives, and nursing professionals throughout this significant programme of work.
