Are you a Global Majority or internationally educated nurse working in England? Have you noticed that not all nurses experience the same opportunities for career progression, with black, brown and internationally educated nurses often facing additional barriers to advancing to higher bands? Do you want to win fair pay for all nursing staff?
Join our webinar on 9 December, 6pm to 7pm, to learn more about racial discrimination in nursing pay and how the RCN's Know Your Worth campaign is working to secure fair pay and progression for all nursing staff.
Hosted by RCN members like you, this webinar will explore:
- Why nurses continue to build their skills and experience yet remain in Band 5 for longer than colleagues in comparable NHS professions.
- The evidence on racial discrimination in pay and progression. Research shows that “Ethnic minority healthcare workers represent over a third of staff at NHS pay band 5, but their presence drops sharply to just 10% in senior roles,” (Soo Choi, 2026).
- How to take action in your workplace and build local networks with your colleagues that can organise and win on fair pay and progression.
FAQs
I'm not an internationally educated or Global Majority nurse. Can I still attend?
Absolutely. Tackling pay discrimination is everyone's responsibility, and all RCN members and non-members are welcome to join.
It is important that the voices of members with lived experience of racial discrimination remain at the centre of this discussion. We ask attendees to be mindful of this and help create space for those voices to be heard.
Please be aware, when you join this event your name, email address and organisation may be visible to other attendees. The meeting may be attended by both RCN members and non-members.
