The County Durham and Darlington branch is reconvening its Annual General Meeting, after being unable to complete the business of the original AGM because attendance wasn't high enough. This reconvened AGM is your opportunity to connect with RCN members from across the branch area, share experiences and discuss the workplace issues that matter most to nursing staff in County Durham and Darlington.
Why your attendance matters
Branches need active members more than ever, and this is your chance to help shape your local RCN and ensure members' voices and concerns are heard. Whether you're new to branch meetings or a regular attendee, you'll be warmly welcomed.
The meeting will provide a supportive space to discuss local, regional and national issues, share concerns and hear what support is available.
Whether you're new to branch meetings or a regular attendee, you'll be warmly welcomed.
Together, nursing staff have a stronger voice. By getting involved in your branch, you can help shape decisions, influence change and strengthen support for members across the profession. You are the RCN. The status quo will only change if everyone plays their part in changing it.
What happens at an AGM
At an AGM, the branch reviews that past year and approves reps in the branch area to continue supporting members for another year. The branch's executive team for the following year is elected by those present. There need to be at least 10 members present for the meeting to be 'quorate' (ie. for the results of the meeting to be valid).
Unfortunately at the AGM held on 7 October there weren't enough members present to pass the business of the meeting: electing a new committee and ratifying the branch's reps to continue supporting members in 2027. Your support at this reconvened AGM is therefore greatly needed.
Branch executive roles up for election
Roles up for election for a term of office starting on 1 January 2027 and lasting until 31 December 2027 include branch chair, secretary, treasurer and committee member.
Read the branch officer role descriptors to decide if any of these roles chime with your skillset.
If any of these roles appeals to you, it's advisable to submit an online nomination prior to the meeting as written submissions will take precedence over those made verbally at the AGM on the day.
