Choose event information:
This AGM will be another chance to network with other RCN members in your branch area. There is strength in numbers and so your mutual support will mean a lot to each other.
Book your place and add this event to your calendar.
This will be a safe space to discuss any issues at work that are concerning you as well as any regional or country-wide professional or workplace issues.
If you've never been before, don't let that put you off. Branches need active members more than ever. If you as health and care workers don't stand up for your rights now who knows what may happen to them in the future?
You and your fellow members are the RCN. Play your part in making change happen and winning what you deserve.
What happens at an AGM
At an AGM, the branch's executive team for the following year is elected by those present. There need to be at least 10 members present for the meeting to be 'quorate' (ie. for the results of the meeting to be valid). Roles available include branch chair, secretary and treasurer.
Branch executive committee election
The branch executive committee is elected at each AGM, ready to take up seats on 1 January the following year. Roles available include:
- branch chair
- branch secretary
- branch treasurer
- and two branch executive members.
These two extra roles could take a lead on any area you're particularly passionate about - for example you could be activist lead; Global Majority lead; communications lead; social media lead; wellbeing officer; student liaison officer; nursing support worker lead; equity, diversity and inclusion lead - or anything else you can think of that would be useful.
The term of office for all these positions is 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027.
Read the branch officer role descriptors to decide if any of these roles appeal to you or chime with your skillset.
Deadline for expressions of interest
If they do, to express your interest in taking up a role, please email the regional office: northern.region@rcn.org.uk by Monday 21 September 2026 identifying which seat you are interested in standing for. Please note that ONLY IF NO ONE has put themselves forward in writing before the AGM can they can be invited to do so at the AGM itself. Expressions of interest that have been submitted in writing prior to the AGM will take precedence over those made verbally on the day of the AGM, so please bear this in mind and get your expression of interest in before 21 September.
