You're invited to our lunchtime webinar focussing on Peripheral arterial disease and management of the lower limb
Join us for this engaging and informative session, highlighting lower limb health during Legs Matter Awareness Week (8-12 June 2026).
Our special guest speaker will be Annie Clothier, Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, and the current RCN Wales Nurse of the Year.
Annie will share her expertise and insights, with time for an open Q&A segment designed to encourage discussion.
The session will look at the following topics:
- Recognise and assess Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) by identifying risk factors, clinical features (e.g. claudication, rest pain, tissue loss), and performing basic vascular assessments such as pulse palpation, ABPI interpretation, and skin inspection.
- Implement evidence based management strategies including optimisation of cardiovascular risk factors, medication awareness (e.g. antiplatelets, statins), exercise advice, and referrals to vascular services when indicated.
- Provide high quality wound and skin care by preventing infection, recognising ischaemic changes, and supporting ulcer management while understanding when compression or debridement is contraindicated.
- Educate and support patients to promote smoking cessation, medication adherence, foot care, symptom monitoring, and timely reporting of deterioration to prevent limb loss.
This session will be particularly suitable for community nurses and practice nurses, but is open to all nursing roles, including RCN members and non-members. This event is organised by RCN Wales, but you do not need to be based in Wales to join us!
