This weekend, we’ll be celebrating the essential contribution the nursing support workforce makes to patient care and health and social care services.

For Nursing Support Workers’ Day 2025, we’ve created a series of videos featuring nursing support workers that capture why their diverse roles – from neonatal to end-of-life care – are so crucial.

Sharon Mitchel, Chair of the RCN Nursing Support Workers’ Committee, said: “Every day, I see the incredible impact nursing support workers have – whether they’re working in acute hospital settings or out in the community. Their compassion, resilience, and expertise are the quiet force behind so much of the care we deliver.”

Each year, on 23 November, we celebrate the core part nursing support workers play in the day-to-day running of health and care services and supporting registered nurses to ensure patients get the best possible care.

Ofrah Muflahi, RCN Professional Lead for Nursing Support Workers, said: “Nursing support workers stand shoulder to shoulder with nurses, providing vital care and emotional support. They are an essential part of nursing, and their care, commitment and professionalism make a real difference to patients and communities across the UK.

“The RCN is proud to stand with them and champion the vital role they play in delivering quality care.”

As part of this weekend’s celebrations, we’re also hosting a free UK-wide Nursing Support Workers conference at RCN headquarters in London, on Saturday 22 November. For those who cannot attend, the event will be recorded and available to watch afterwards.

The theme of this year’s conference – our legacy, our story – will see nursing support workers share powerful stories about their experiences of nursing in the UK, alongside a keynote speech from RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive Professor Nicola Ranger.
