The Journey of RCN Wales marks over six decades of nursing’s voice and vision in Wales. Born from the determination and collective effort of nurses across Wales who campaigned and fundraised to establish Tŷ Maeth, a headquarters that would give Welsh nursing its own home and identity. This exhibition tells the story of resilience, transformation and celebrates the progress that has been made.
The exhibition is displayed across 3 cabinets, each with its own theme.
Cabinet 1: Laying the groundwork
This cabinet showcases some of the items from the original fundraising campaign for Tŷ Maeth, as well as items from the opening ceremony.
Cabinet 2: Legacy and recognition
This cabinet contains various items from the first 60 years of Tŷ Maeth, alongside items that illustrate changes in the profession that have taken place during that time.
Cabinet 3: Then and now
This cabinet shows how the building has changed over 60 years and highlights some of the campaigns that have taken place over that time.
Alongside our exhibition we also have a timeline which charts the journey of nursing in Wales from the initial call for a Welsh board up until the present day.
