Ellen McNicholas, RCN South East Regional Director, said: “My heartfelt congratulations to Sarah on receiving this award. Colleagues who nominated Sarah said her activity and contribution is unsurpassed. As a co-author of an oral history collection from The London Hospital and a contributor to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biographies, Sarah has communicated her enthusiasm for historical research in an open, collaborative way through speaking at meetings, writing blogs and an article for the UK Association for the History of Nursing. Through her efforts, the awareness of the achievements of many nurses has been publicised and highlighted to both nurses, and the general public.”
Sarah Rogers said: “I am very humbled and honoured to have been awarded a commendation as a member of the RCN History of Nursing Forum. I was introduced to the forum after I had a serious illness, and have become immersed in the history of nursing. Since completing my PhD researching Eva Lückes as an influential matron maker (matron of The London Hospital 1881-1919 and where I trained), I am now writing her biography. I am also inserting as many of the 474 matrons whom Eva trained or worked with into Wikipedia articles as part of the RCN History of Nursing Forum’s Nurses in Red Project. Some matrons are notable enough to have their own page on Wiki, and others I include into the relevant hospital page, or write a new page for their hospital before adding them.”
Sarah was presented with her award at the RCN Awards ceremony at RCN Congress 2025 in Liverpool.
