Carmel O'Boyle has been re-elected as Chair of RCN Council, the College's governing body, while Natalie Brooks has been re-elected as Vice Chair.

Carmel first took up the role as Chair of RCN Council in January 2025. During her first term, she has championed the voice of nursing staff across the UK and will continue to do so for a further term, until the end of 2028.

Carmel said: "It's a privilege to continue to lead RCN Council. The nursing profession continues to face significant challenges, but also enormous opportunities.

“I believe the Council table is a place for discussion, debate and decisions, considering our governance and collective responsibility, and we’ve made bold and brave decisions, for the good of the RCN.”

Natalie will also continue in her role as Vice Chair of RCN Council, supporting the work of the Chair and Council as they represent members and help shape the strategic direction of the College.

Natalie said: "I'm delighted to continue serving as Vice Chair of RCN Council. It’s an honour to represent our members and support the vital work of Council as we help shape the future of the RCN. I look forward to continuing to work with Carmel, fellow Council members and RCN staff to ensure the voices of nursing staff are heard and reflected in the decisions we make on behalf of the profession."

Professor Nicola Ranger, RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, said: "Congratulations to Carmel and Natalie on being re-elected. They’ve both been strong advocates for nursing staff throughout their time as Chair and Vice Chair, bringing commitment and a clear focus on what matters most to our members. I look forward to continuing our work together as we campaign for fair pay and pay progression, safe staffing and the investment nursing needs to deliver the best possible care."
