Parkinson's

Resources to support individuals with Parkinson's and their line managers.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.

Reasonable adjustments for Parkinson's

Our Health Ability Passport guidance has been developed with members with lived experience of disability, neurodivergence and long-term conditions.

With Callum Metcalfe-O'Shea, (RCN professional lead for long-term conditions), we have reviewed the guidance to make sure it supports members with a long-term condition diagnosis.

Use the guidance along with our Parkinson's specific passport template developed with  Parkinson's UK   to ensure you have helpful conversations with your line manager that:

  • Consider your specialist team reviews to ensure adjustments remain effective and appropriate
  • Look at the impacts of medications and treatments and make adjustments around this
  • Acknowledge fluctuating symptoms and plan for flare ups.

The passport template can be downloaded via the link on the right as a fillable pdf or, you can use it and the health ability passport guidance to inform completion of your employer's passport document, if they have one.

Tincy's story - life after Parkinson's diagnosis

Tincy talks us through from her diagnosis to where she is now. Her story is full of positivity as she discusses:

  • The stigma facing those from ethnic minority backgrounds that spurred her on to become an advocate for those with Parkinson's
  • How her lived experience of having a long-term condition has enhanced her patient care
  • Why a diagnosis of a long-term condition needn't hamper your career progression.

Parkinson's UK is doing work on race equality in research.

In September 2024, Tincy also featured in an RCN article alongside Amanda who has type 1 diabetes: 'My diagnosis doesn't define me': working with a long-term condition'
