Redeployment and reorganisation

Here you'll find a range of information and advice to help you understand your rights if you are being redeployed.

Redeployment can come in many forms such as:

  • Short to medium term redeployment due to a pandemic (COVID-19)
  • Short term redeployment due to staffing levels or skill mix
  • Long term or permanent redeployment due to reorganisation or redundancy,

Our advice guides cover our most frequently asked questions and will help you navigate what can be, a stressful and difficult time.

Being moved for a short period

Our redeployment and unsustainable pressures guide provides information on what to do if you are asked to move from your normal working environment for a short period of time.

Our guide will help you think about whether this is a reasonable request, your competency and what to do when you are asked to move. It also includes a helpful checklist on what to consider when moving to different areas.

Formal reorganisation, redundancy and redeployment

If you are facing reorganisation, permanent redeployment or redundancy, it is important that you see our guide and contact us for support.

Nursing Workforce Standards

Staff should not be redeployed to simply cover up the lack of safe staffing.

Safe staffing means having enough nursing staff with the right skills and knowledge, in the right place, at the right time. We're calling for safe and effective care to be enshrined in law in each UK country. Find out about what you can do in your country and join our campaign

To support our campaign, our Nursing Workforce Standards are the first national blueprint for tackling the nursing staff shortage levels across the UK.

They set the standard for excellent patient care and nursing support in all settings, and all UK countries.
