Do you have a history of nursing HIV-AIDs story to share?

Dianne Yarwood 28 Apr 2025

Find out who our HIVStory oral history project interviewers are and where they are based, for our latest History of Nursing Forum project.

We have embarked on our ambitious two-year project to collect oral history interviews from across the UK, capturing the lived experiences of nursing HIV-AIDs in the 1980s and 1990s. Our team of volunteers have attended training and are now taking their first interviews.

Interviews can be quite short 5-10 minute recordings of specific stories, or for those with wider experiences can be up to 1-2 hours.

We would love to gain a wide range of experiences, especially those outside city-hospitals. Care settings such as district nursing, maternity, children's or prison nursing are all areas that are less well known.

The interviews are carried out face to face. Here are our interviewers and where they are located. If you are interested in being interviewed, especially if you live near one of our interviewers, please contact us honf@rcn.org.uk so we can share your contact details with the appropriate interviewer.

Sean in Belfast
Joe in Inverness
Michael in Witney (Oxfordshire)
Sue in Bridport
Nicky in London
Rosie in York
Peter in Manchester
Annette in Nottingham
Sharon in Glossop
Jane in Stoke-on-Trent

We do not yet have volunteer-interviewers for Northern Region, Eastern Region or Wales. If you are interested please contact us honf@rcn.org.uk.
