Attending Congress in Liverpool for the first time was both an honour and a privilege. As a member of the RCN Gastroenterology Forum, I was excited to experience one of the most significant events in the nursing calendar and to engage with colleagues from across the UK who share a passion for advancing nursing practice and patient care.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was inspiring. Congress brought together nurses from a wide range of specialties, backgrounds, and career stages, all united by a commitment to improving healthcare and advocating for the nursing profession. The scale of the event was impressive, offering numerous opportunities to attend debates, educational sessions, networking events, and exhibitions.
One of the most valuable aspects of Congress was the opportunity to hear directly from nurses and healthcare leaders discussing current challenges and future opportunities within the profession. The debates were particularly engaging, providing insight into the issues that matter most to nursing staff today, including workforce pressures, professional development, patient safety, and the future of healthcare delivery. Witnessing these discussions reinforced the importance of nurses having a strong voice in shaping policy and influencing change.
Many of the presentations demonstrated how nurses are leading improvements in patient care through research, education, and service development. These examples provided valuable ideas and inspiration that I can take back to my own practice and share with colleagues.
Congress also offered excellent networking opportunities.
It was encouraging to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges, and learn from nurses working in different healthcare settings across the UK.
Liverpool proved to be a fantastic host city. Its rich history, vibrant culture, and warm welcome added to the overall experience.
Delegates had the opportunity to explore the city and enjoy its unique character, making the event both professionally rewarding and personally memorable.
Reflecting on my first RCN Congress, I leave feeling inspired, motivated, and proud to be part of such a dedicated profession. The experience reinforced the value of professional engagement and lifelong learning, while also highlighting the collective impact nurses can have when we come together to share knowledge, challenge ideas, and advocate for our patients and our profession.
I would strongly encourage other members, particularly those who have never attended before, to consider participating in future Congress events. It is a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute to the future of nursing.
My first Congress experience in Liverpool is one that I will remember for many years to come, and I look forward to attending again in the future.
